Struck Sober

What a fucking week!

The week started with 2 pitches to the class and lecturer, mine was after 2pm, so i got a good chance to build myself up. My time came and i got through it. i was fucking shaking, it honestly wasn’t a nice experience and usually i’m ok with these types of things. I feel now i’m through whatever emotional crisis i was going through and the pitches in a weird way were tasks which meant more to me than i can explain. Some deep shit over the past few month which have effected me. I kinda lost myself in it all. Or just kinda lost. Although i still had some focus here and there, it was never really focused, Just off sharp. Anyway the pitches were a promised i made myself. I had to perform better than my last pitch which was stinking, and i feel like i did that. It wasn’t great and had a lot of bad moments but i finished it. Doesn’t matter how good or bad it was, i got through it, that was enough for me. After that i felt a fuck load better about myself.

Next on to shooting, start shooting the documentary for class, that felt great after it. We had to take the Wednesday off in Script writing class but i feel it was a right choice based on the footage we filmed. We work effortlessly together, A few hiccups but we worked through it and came out with the footage. Job done. I witnessed some very powerful words and strong characters, 6 men who have recovered from alcohol and from what i saw were loving life and real people. I can’t wait to editing this together, i’m going to put everything i’ve got in to making the best edit i can. Maybe not a masterpiece but defo a strong concept. Crew is working, really good balance with strong minds on board, people who will call you out on bullshit right away, the good kind of people.

Continuing a current Stephen king roll i’m on, ive manage to finish the stand, the shining and currently working through Doctor sleep. Looking up the King/Kubrick war, it’s kinda odd how they are both masters of their art. I wonder if it would be odd to think if either of them is better than the other. Both have created utterly defining pieces of work with genre defining moments in many of them. After finishing the shining, i couldn’t help but see what both sides did, and what i feel, did wrong. Please remember that i am an idiot, with no say at all on both versions but i see what both sides did to try and get the story they wanted tell. i might give it a wee review soon from both side to explain what i mean.

Someone reviewing the shining, how original. Also both book and film along with doctor sleep have a major theme of alcoholism playing throughout they which really suits the mood considering The documentary i’m making is about alcohol recovery.

“ …sampling the tasty waters of oblivion” Stephen king.
